Last days of summer

Summer is quickly coming to an end. In fact on 21 March, Autumn will be here. I took a ride with the scooter and found a spot at one of the `beaches` in town.

There were people making asado and enjoying the afternoon sun. I love the smell of  barbeque. That is one of the things I miss when we have winter…no asado! It is too cold and people stay inside.

It is amazing how nature is changing to accommodate autumn. The leaves are starting to turn colour and a cool breeze is blowing.

I will miss summer but I am also looking forward to photograph the marvelous colours of autumn.

Storms and strange weather

The weather this year has been strange to say the least. January 2012 was incredibly hot and humid. To make things worse the wind was also hot. No rain. February saw tropical storms and March have surprised us all with a lot of rain. We are entering the last days of summer and on 21 March Autumn will officially start.

Yesterday the wind picked up and when I looked outside the window I saw the sky turning black. This didin`t look good and I started to close all windows and shutters. A storm was coming our way.

It didn`t take long before buckets of rain started to pour down. We were playing cards in the kitchen and every now and then mopped the water up that was creeping through underneath the door.

The storm lasted for about an hour and just as sudden as it started, it stopped.

From outside the hostel we could hear the water rushing in the stream 50m from us. We rushed to go and have a look. We were astounded by the amounts of water that were in front of us. The water circled around small trees and looked angry. I didn`t want to be in this water.

We took some photos and decided to go down to the river to see what was happening there. Ad suspected the river had a `closed` sign, which meant cars, bikes and people cannot cross the river. It is too dangerous.

We stayed there for a while and then headed back to the Hostel. Amazing how the climate is changing and I suspect this will be a cold winter.

Pizza and movie night at Hostel tinktinkie

We decided early in the morning to make pizzas for our guests today. Now that we have our own bread maker we have discovered so many things to make with it, including our own pizza base! This is really delicious!

Pizza in Argentina can be a little boring so we normally add our own flair to make it more exciting. Mozzarella cheese, ham, olives, tomato paste, fresh tomatoes and garlic – and beer!

It was really good! We had a great time eating together and Luke and Sam mentioned that it felt like being at home with friends and family.

That is the atmosphere that we are trying to create at Hostel Tinktinkiebeing at home.

The guys were in the mood for a movie and seeing that we have British guests here we decided to watch In Bruges. This is one of our favorite movies and  Luke hadn't seen it.

We all had a good laugh and before we knew it the pizza and movie night was over!

An incredible sunset at Hostel Tinktinkie!

Last night I was privileged to watch this spectacular sunset. I caught myself many times just staring at this! I have said this many times before but I will say it again: "God is the most creative Artist!"

I hope you enjoy it is as much as I did!

Horses close to Hostel Tinktinkie!

I took a lovely walk this morning down to the river and was hoping to see the horses. We always have horses grazing in our area. They are not wild and will come up to the fence if you stand there long enough. I am a little scared of horses and will look at them from a distance.

When I came back, I saw them standing in the field. Curiously they watched me and it didn`t take them long to gallop to the fence to see what I had in my hand. Unfortunately for them it wasn`t food and they quickly lost interest and started to eat the green grass through the fence.

I remember one evening when we were still busy building Hostel Tinktinkie. It was really dark (we didn`t have street lights) and Andrey heard a noise outside. He opened the door and went around the corner to have a look.A huge white horse was standing outside. I am not sure who got the biggest fright..Andrey or the horse! We still laugh about this night.

I include a small video clip of the horses eating. Be sure to pay them a visit when you visit Hostel Tinktinkie!
